Experiences at the University

The Center of Excellence in Fungal Research enhanced and strengthened my basic knowledge in mycology. Working with the top caliber mycologists helped me to improve the quality of my work and advanced my knowledge in fungal research. They wanted you to think outside the box and focused not only on the basic learning but to work on the applications as well.  The center also opened opportunities to meet brilliant minds and create linkages in the research arena. It helped me to develop my laboratory and writing skills as well as my social interaction.  I learned from my experiences and from different people. I grew in the different aspects of my life. It widened my perspective, helped me to identify and accept my weaknesses and worked on my strengths as a researcher and as an individual. I will surely treasure my bittersweet experiences in here. I am looking forward to share the knowledge I gained from the center to my institution in the Philippines as a mycologist. I will forever be grateful.

Alumni wisdom

I think the recipe for success in this field is learning to love what you are doing. There will be times when you will feel exhausted, when you will feel that you will never be enough, just DON’T GIVE UP. It will never be easy, but I assure you, it will all  be worth it.
